Oh, I personally think Disney very much intended to show the fucked up family dynamics for sure...particularly the fucked up dynamics that come from older generations (i.e, Abuela Alma) dealing with their generational trauma.

And even more, it's amazing how that dysfunction is resolved but...you can still see there's a long way to go and the family Madrigal will go that way! ^ ^
