I...well, Beast, you may very well like it. There are a lot of good parts to it. And that's why it's such a bizarre movie to me in a lot of ways-because it's a terrible, terrible movie sprinkled with a lot of good parts. 'Tis absurd.
I personally...didn't find it morally complex at all. My black ass is #teamCap all the way and I wanted to throw my shoe at the screen every single time Tony fucking Stark showed his ugly mug. Like, I'm hyperaware that Tony is only in this Captain America movie (...that should focus on, y'know, Sam, Steve, & Bucky) because Marvel keeps tossing RDJ's salad like it's romaine. So for me, it's not morally complex, but more of what is Tony Stark even doing here?!
From what I understand, Tony Stark was Captain America's counterpoint in the Civil War that happened in the comics.
Not being a comic reader, I have to go by what I've gleaned from others, and I think that was related to the Mutant Registration Act, something the movies couldn't do on account of X Men being with another studio.
So, there's a reason for Tony Stark to be there.
I may have to watch the movie to find out the exact nature of the conflict.
Well...the thing about Civil War and Tony's place in the comics against Steve Rogers?
Civil War is one of those infamous comic events that barely anyone thinks should've ever happened. Like...ever. I haven't read the actual comic myself (and most certainly don't plan to), but from my extensive research, it was bad. Bad as a conflict, bad for the characters' motives and characterizations. The writers all but made Steve a fucking anarchist against regular government and made Tony a little fascist.
So it's not a good story and, especially, it's not a good portrayal of Tony Stark and Steve Rogers if you're interested in knowing and liking them.
Now that being said, this was supposed to be a Captain America 3 movie. And we know that this was supposed to pick up where we left off in Captain America: The Winter Soldier...
...And there were A WHOLE LOT of us fans that were eager and excited to get into this movie and see how it'll treat the Cap mythos (3 Captain Americas: Sam Wilson, Steve Rogers, and Bucky fucking Barnes) and how they'll treat/portray the Winter Soldier.
That's a story that should be or should at least resemble The Winter Soldier Trials from the comics.
Which is about Bucky Barnes. Bucky Barnes and the beginnings of his guilt, his redemption, his healing, etc.
That is a story that, to my knowledge, has fuck all to do with the shitfest that was Civil War.
But RDJ wanted a piece of the commercial and cultural success of Captain America: The Winter Soldier and, as one of my links showed, he is a notorious contract shark and whoops! There he goes once again pushing and shoving his way to the front of a story that, really, should have as little as possible to do with him (...Tony Stark could've just bought the best fucking lawyers for Bucky, really).
So...yeah. There's really no reason for Tony Stark to be here. At all. Whatsoever.
