My mother was the one to check the mailbox today and she gave this to me as soon as I rolled over and woke up this morning-that-was-almost-afternoon. It...it was a wonderful surprise after waking up from a pretty good dream where I was a nurse teaching a student.

I'm still tearing up. Thank you.

It's supposed to be Sailor Moon's brooch… Also Staryu is one of the first lot. There might be a new Staryu in the upcoming games, I don't know (I know I saw a pretty new Ponyta design, and Ponyta is also in the first lot), but.

Actually, come to think, I think we see Misty's Staryu when we meet Misty in the Pokémon anime. Which is in the first couple of episodes, aired way back…1998?

Ahhh, 1998...I was but 7-years-old, in the 1st grade...Pokemon been around THAT long, huh? :P

The first games came out in Japan in 1996, the first anime episodes in Japan in 1997, and I was mistaken about the first episode in which we saw Misty's Staryu (we meet Misty in ep 1 and Staryu in ep 6) but it first aired in English in 1998.

And Ash won his first Pokémon League this year.

…he's…apparently still being animated like he's ten.

Since '96...it has indeed been that long...

But hold up, hold up...I thought they already done aged up Ash (and other main characters alongside him) so that he looks properly like a teen??? Instead he's still flipping ten-years-old?!?!?!

idk I haven't watched in fifteen years probably, except a few early episodes (in vain hope of following the plot of this epic "Ash travels back in time to save the world" fic), but he sure doesn't look thirty

Lord h'mercy, that's not good for kids. I mean, what happens when they get anxiety about growing up and, subsequently, looking different?

I remember one of my anxieties when I was a preteen was: what in the world is it going to feel like when I'm adult and I'm not growing anymore? As a child, I was so used to growing that the thought of stopping literally terrified me for a while.

As an adult now, I know that...it's alright and perfectly normal and preferable to stop growing after a while, haha! I'm comfy with my height (I'm about 5"6) and I wish I could go back and let my kid!self know that there's so, so much more to her than getting praise for how much she's grown in the last year. ^ ^

That was a bit of a tangent, but...yeah, those are my thoughts on that. ^ ^

It's not this one, that's Dana's, but it's usually the one I have in mind when trying to draw them (and failing at it). I also haven't been drawing them as long or as regularly as Dana has, so there's that, too.
