That's one of the things that makes The Being angry. Everyone remembers it because of another movie, but it's realty only one in a long string of devotion, falling-away and repentance for the Jewish people.
If you continue on in to the Prophets and the Writings, you find the taking of slaves and other actions like it by the Israelites. There are commands to the Israelite people to yet their slaves fairly and justly, because it want all that long ago that the Israelites were slaves, and The Being has a long memory.
