Trigger Warning: Racism (Damn, I was so shocked that I didn't quite think to put this up here. Whoops!)

A’ight, so I just saw this late last night scrolling down my Tumblr dash. This was reblogged by one of my mutual bloggers (meaning that we follow each other) and she’s a white woman that fully understands intersectionality and I’ve had many a brief, but enjoyable conversation with her.

“This” being, by the way, a literal site where white folks do their part to give reparations to people of color.

This is not a drill. This is not a drill.

I have clicked all throughout the site and, yes it is 10000% legit, albeit very, very, very young, so we people of color ain’t gonna find everything and anything we need just yet (although personally, I have no immediate plans to ask for anything). But the main thing that told me this is legit is that this is not started by a white person Fatally And Disingenuously Suffering From Whitey Guilt.

No, this was started by none other than a fellow black woman. Her name is Natasha Marin and, from her page, she originally started this as a social media experiment on Facebook. Black women out here gettin’ it, yaaaaaaaaaaasssss!!!!

And, really, I just…I just gotta quote part of that page for you because I’m still having a hard time believing it. I’m still having a hard time believing that this exists. Good lord have mercy:

What if you actually did something meaningful for someone before the end of the year?

What if a stranger restored your belief in humanity, if only for a moment, by supporting you and allowing you to claim something you need in a material way?

I invite People of Color to ask for what we need to feel better, be happier, be more productive by posting in this space. These may be both material and immaterial requests.

I invite people who identify as White to offer services or contributions to People of Color in need of time, energy, substantive care, and support.

I don't want to put limitations on this social experiment, but here's how I imagine it might work:

POC 1: I need a massage. This week.
White Person 1: [posts Groupon with code for redemption]

POC2: I need therapy. I can spend $10 a session.
White Person 2: [posts contact information to a therapist who they have made arrangements with.]

POC 3: I need groceries.
White Person 3: "I'll get them for you. PM me and I'll send an Amazon Fresh or Safeway delivery. You just pick out what you want. I have a $200 limit."

POC 4: I'm too upset to make dinner. I live in Seattle.
White Person 4: "Come over to my house for dinner, bring a friend if you like. PM me and I'll send you the address, or can I order delivery to you? What kind of food do you like?"

POC 5: I need a quiet place to work on _________.
White Person 5: "I have an office, spare room, house, that will be unoccupied on the following dates, would you like to use that space? I can send pictures ..."

POC 6: I want to scream and cuss at someone.
White Person 6: "I volunteer as tribute. How do we set this up?"

POC 7: I want to escape this cruel world in a *Specific Videogame* but can't afford it on Steam right now. This is not a crisis, I just don't trust people easily and want to see if this works.
White Person 7: Thank you for giving me the chance to do something concrete and relatively easy. I was quietly hating myself for doing nothing.

What? What? What? Woah, what?!

Again, the site looks quite young, but if you scroll down the main home page, you’ll see that it’s already filling up with white folks literally offering to help and give to people of color. You can see that there are 44 offers from white people and just 17 requests from people of color.

Oh, also, for all the indignant, racist trolls? Hahaha…hah. There is quite literally a troll fund for those fucks.

The main thing that gets me...

On the main/home page, you can scroll down the tag column on the right-hand side and you see that the reparations are by far not just about money whatsoever. For example, you see tags for cleaning, creative support, resume help, job hunting coaching, mental health support, just a simple quiet space to concentrate on x, babysitting, dog sitting, etc.

Now, don’t get me wrong: money is a huge, huge, huge, huge part of reparations. White folks, ya’ll owe us people of color the world over serious green. Hell, in the United States of America alone? The money owed to us African Americans and Native Americans for each group is in the hundreds of millions. Since Amarie is a black woman, I’m actually supposed to be wiping my ass with good ol’ George Washington’s face while lounging all day doing nothing in a 40-bedroom, 30-bathroom mansion high, high on top of Capitol Hill.

Oh, and I should have my library, too. I should have a library the size of a small castle, complete with ornate fireplace, designer rugs, and a tea-making station.

So yes, there’s money owed.

But the vast hurts and injustices committed against people of color goes above and beyond money, and so the issue of reparations-true reparations-must go above and beyond money. We people of color are mentally, emotionally, and physically hurt by the racism and other oppressions we face depending on the intersections of our identities. We are denied basic resources and opportunities at just about every turn. We are expected to explain and explain and explain our oppression in a kind, gentle manner to our oppressors with very rarely any of our “allies” jumping in to help and protect us. And on and on and on.

So the fact that this program created by a black woman exists puts me into a near-tearful state of shock. And the fact that, on top of this, there are actual, literal white people signing up to help, give, and support in just about any way they can only add to my shock.

Then, the fact that I live in a world where this should be any kind of shock to begin with or, better yet, that this program had to come to fruition at all brings new tears to my eyes.

Like, it’s just…unbelievable. So unbelievable. White folks that are participating this or plan to participate in this in good faith in the future…are ya’ll okay? Did something hit your head? Did you get a personality adjuster? Did your mama tell you somethin’ that she wasn’t supposed to and, from that moment on, your life has just never been the same and so now you’re irrevocably changed and different?

Did the milk run out? The cheese? Was it the end of Friends?

What’s wrong with ya’ll? What are ya’ll doing?

I can’t believe this. I’m still processing this.

I really, really am.

Umm…Imma try not to cry now ‘cause I got pre-Anatomy & Physiology homework to do and it’s kinda hard to read and write notes while crying.

Yeah, Imma try.
