While there's no on-camera point where Aang says he's vegetarian, Sokka has been in his company for a significant amount of time at this point. Sokka should know at this point what Aang's diet mostly consists of.
This is one of those spots where I can't get behind the characterization of Sokka as a buffoon. Yes, he's the normal in the world of the benders, but Sokka can keep pace, both in physical and, as we'll see, in lyrical and poetic forms.
Sokka's smart. Occasionally Wrong Genre Savvy, but he's not...the kind of kid that's going to just run up against big doors and try to force them open. (I think the writers may not have figured out Sokka for a season or two.) Or the kind that is going to drool over cured meats when the only representative of the culture they have hasn't been eating meat.
