One time I donated blood when I had an English comp paper due. The paper was a rambling mess to the tune of "donating blood is important, especially so because queer and trans people are so often the victims of violence and therefore more likely than the general population to need blood transfusions, and the discriminatory ban on so many queer and trans people that keeps them from donating perfectly healthy blood is just one more reason for the queer and trans people allowed to donate to actually donate". This is pertinent because I just donated blood today, and I think I may use the above info as background in the romance short I thought of while I was there. (Blood donor / blood bank nurse.)

And I know it may not help much, but it's always pissed me the FUCK OFF whenever I hear bullshit against LGBT people donating blood. Like, get the fuck away from here with that mess.
