On These Panama Papers

I first heard word about the Panama Papers over at Shakesville, but I admit that I barely skimmed the post, as I was in a state of flow writing.

But now the news has come across my Tumblr dash several times and I stopped to read all about it. And...wow. Just wow. Here and here is where you can see thorough, comprehensive information on the issue.

My mind is still blown myself. I...right now, the main emotion that I'm feeling is hope. Yes, hope that this massive leak will bring about something, somehow in the world. Some kind of huge, drastic change for the better that's been needing to happen for a good minute now. I know that potential change will very well not be perfect. I know that, more than that, next to nothing will happen. But I, like billions of other people, need a good dose of hope in my life and so...I'm going to hope.

I am shocked, but I am hopeful.

Wow. Thank you for this news. Sometimes I feel like no matter how I try to do my bit, things will only ever get worse, and I sometimes feel like, with everything that's going on, change is inevitable, and this is one of the things that gives me some hope too.

Gee, my country is a tax haven too? Specifically, one that's awesome to use because it doesn't have a reputation as a tax haven. Ugh. (The Prime Minister attempts to blame it all on a Labour government of yore, because he is a dick who doesn't take responsibility for anything.)

Dang, your country, too?! Yikes! And yeah...it seems to be a global problem of politicians/government officials that are dicks that refuse to take responsibility for anything. Ugh. -____-

I've been following this one too, with some interest.

First reaction: bahahaha cower before sunlight, you pack of vampires.

Second reaction: Now let's watch 'em scurry for the dark, and probably most of them will even make it. (Dammit.)

Third reaction: How do we make our voices heard and get something /done/ about this?

Which: well, a lot of this is happening in countries where some US citizens making a clamor won't do much. That doesn't mean we can't do anything here.

Oh, hope indeed. I hope that...even as they're all scurrying for the dark that they won't be able to make it in time for some much-needed, drastic change to catch up with them. Either that, or they'll be forced to pull out of the dark because this kind of wealth inequality (among a whole host of other things) simply cannot go on long. It cannot be sustained.

And even if it could be sustained, it is not right in the least.

So yeah, here's to hope, too.
