#1999 Way You Know You're Hamilton Trash
Tuesday, April 19th, 2016 03:52 pm...When you used to clean house with your Mama while rocking out to your Utada Hikaru collection on your ipod. But now you rock out to your Hamilton soundtrack and sometimes you even take much, much longer to clean because you pause to listen and rap and sing along to the lyrics.
Be scrubbin' the bathtub to My Shot.
Be wipin' down the bathroom mirror to Wait For It.
Be sweepin' up the kitchen floor to Guns and Ships.
And then your Mama calls you just this morning while she's on the way home (she works night shift) to check if you're okay. She makes sure to blast our Hamilton CD in the car so you can hear Wait For It sounding through the car, teehee! You've been successfully passing down the Hamilton Bug to your Mama!
Yeah, you know you be Hamilton Trash.

Date: 2016-04-20 04:35 am (UTC)Also, "Hamilton" has affected U.S. monetary policy. I quote from CNN Money:
[Treasury Secretary Jack] Lew announced last summer that he was considering redesigning the $10 bill to include the portrait of a woman. The decision to make the historic change at the expense of Hamilton drew angry rebukes from fans of the former Treasury Secretary. The pro-Hamilton movement gained steam after the smash success of the hip-hop Broadway musical about his life this year.
Lin-Manuel Miranda also lobbied Lew on Twitter about keeping Hamilton on the ten-dollar bill.
So yeah. “Hamilton” affected Hamiltons for the foreseeable future.
Hamilton fans are POWERFUL. Trash is not the right word.
P.S. "Wait For It" is a very good song to sing while you're doing the dishes. Three repetitions will just about get you through five minutes of soaking the dishes in bleach. Not that I would know that for any reason whatsoever...

Also, "Trash" is just a way we Millennials say that we're huge, huge fans of something, that we love something! There's even a Ham4Ham video of Lin where he references this. To paraphrase, he says, "When the kids like something, they call themselves the trash of it, LOL!"

I don't get why you'd want to call yourselves trash for liking something. But then, I can recall when "trash" was what other people called fans of anything odd or not mainstream, and it was definitely meant as an insult. The idea was that you were worthless BECAUSE you liked...oh, fill in the blank. So I can't hear "trash" as anything but bad.

Update!
Date: 2016-04-20 06:24 pm (UTC)Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew is expected to announce that he has decided to put abolitionist leader Harriet Tubman on a new $20 bill, according to a spokesman for the Treasury Department.
